As they cater specifically to people looking to buy exercise equipment, you will be able to try out several models, and get good product information and personal attention from trained salespeople. However, because it's a smaller store you will often get a hard sell from salespeople. Go in intending to gain information only... don't go in intending to buy just yet. Try a few out, get some information, and take it home with you. Don't feel pressured to buy. Also, the prices tend to be much higher, as the equipment is better... but also because they have a higher mark-up then larger or online retailers will.
Online Stores
Buying elliptical trainers online is actually a good idea, especially if you have already done some real-world research first. You can do additional research online as well, and read customer testimonials and reviews. Obviously, it's much faster to buy online, and you can also save money. Prices will be competitive with the mainstream retailers, and much less than at specialty stores.
