NordicTrack A.C.T Elliptical Trainer Review

The NordicTrack A.C.T. elliptical trainer has been a huge seller, and one of their most popular models. It comes in a Standard and Commercial version, but there really isn't much difference between the two and most people will be quite happy with the Standard version. It's a high-performance elliptical with a small footprint, and a price tag that makes it a smart buy.

NordicTrack A.C.T. Features

The only difference between Standard and Commercial versions of this elliptical is iFit compatibility. The Commercial model can be set up with iFit, while the standard model cannot. While iFit is great, it isn't necessary for a good workout, and most people will be perfectly happy without it.

Most ellipticals have a maximum stride length of 20" at most, and most commonly they are fixed at 18". The A.C.T. has a variable stride length between 18"-22", so it accommodates users of various heights. You can also change your stride to suit the intensity of your workout and target different muscle groups in your lower body... even during one workout session.

The A.C.T. has a center wheel design, which keeps you centered above the motion so you don't lean forward or back while you workout. It also means that the pedals are closer together than most other models, which means women who are on the shorter side are going to have a much more comfortable workout experience.

One great feature of this elliptical machine is the compact size. The center design allows the elliptical to have a much smaller footprint. At only 47" long, it is much smaller than the average elliptical. If you have a small space, then this elliptical is the perfect solution. Usually, with smaller models, you sacrifice some stability... but not in this case. The center drive has a square base, which keeps the machine rock solid and steady with no wobbling.

Value for Money

The Standard version runs for around $700-$900. Because they are such a huge manufacturer of fitness equipment, NordicTrack is able to pack a lot of features into one machine and sell it for less than most of their competitors do. Their warranty is not bad, with 10 years coverage for the brakes and a year for parts and labor. If you can buy an extended warranty, it's a good idea to do so.

Bottom Line

Variable stride, smooth steady motion and compact design makes the NordicTrack A.C.T. elliptical trainer a great buy. It's worth shopping around for this one. It's a high-performance elliptical, with an affordable price tag.
