NordicTrack AudioStrider Elliptical Trainer Review

The NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 Elliptical trainer comes in Standard and Pro, but they are basically the same machine as far as performance and features. This model has been a constant in the NordicTrack line, which is not usual for them as they tend to change models on an annual basis. But the high user and consumer publication ratings plus their excellent service record has made the AudioStrider their most enduring, and one of their most popular, elliptical trainers.

NordicTrack AudioStrider Features

To start, there is one difference between the Standard and Pro versions...the Pro version is iFit Live compatible. iFit Live uses your wireless internet connection to track your workout and fitness data, compete against your Facebook friends for your fitness goals, download new workouts right to your elliptical and use Google Maps to map out workout routes. It costs extra, so unless you feel this is a must-have feature don't let it be the deciding factor between your choices of elliptical trainers.

The best feature of the AudioStrider is the power incline, which lets you increase or decrease your incline (and workout intensity) from 10-30 percent mid-workout. You can also adjust your stride length from 18"-20". Not a huge range, but this is the range that has been shown to be most comfortable for most people.

If you find yourself falling into a workout rut, you'll appreciate the 25 different workout programs that come with the AudioStrider. This is a huge selection, especially when compared to other ellipticals in a variety of price ranges. You get 10 performance programs, and 15 toning programs, so there really is something for everybody.

Another standout feature, of course, is the mp3/Pod input and speakers. Many ellipticals have this feature, but the sound quality is usually not that great. The AudioStrider, as the name suggests, has a much better quality of speaker so you can actually enjoy headphone-free music while you exercise. IN addition, the built-in fan is a vast improvement over most, and it actually offers you some cooling relief during those hardcore sessions.

Value for Money

The AudioStrider usually sells for around $1,000 but can be found for less, depending on where you buy it. It is considered a high-end budget model, and has been rated a best buy from several consumer publications. NordicTrack warranties range, depending on the model, between 1-3 years for parts and 1 year for labor, so it is a good idea to check before you buy, and if possible purchase an extended warranty. Although this brand has a good track record for durability, better to be safe than sorry.

Bottom Line

For the basic home user, the NordicTrack AudioStrider elliptical trainer has everything you need at a price that fits most budgets. It will likely remain their best-selling model for a long, long time.
