NordicTrack E5Vi Elliptical Trainer Review

NordicTrack is well-known for making high-performance exercise machines at a reasonable price, and the E5vi NordicTrack E5vi elliptical trainer is one of their most affordable options. While it has some great features, it is a lightweight machine that does have a few limitations. This review will include both the Standard and the Plus models of the NordicTrack E5vi line.

NordicTrack E5Vi Features

The main difference between the Standard and the Plus models in this line is iFit compatibility. With iFit Live, you can set up an online profile and track your workouts and fitness/weight loss goals, plus receive downloadable workouts. This is a very cool feature, but not really one that should make or break your purchase decision. The Plus model also includes speakers and mp3 and iPod inputs, so you can use your elliptical without headphones.

Both models have an adjustable stride length so you can accommodate users of all different heights, and also target different lower body muscles all in the same workout. You can change the stride length from 13" to 18". Starting from short strides to long strides, you can move through targeting your thighs, your abs and hips, and your back, glutes and entire legs. Height-wise, if you are over 6' tall then you might find the 18" stride to be a bit too short for you... it's a good idea to try before you buy to make sure it's comfortable for you.

If you like to mix up your workouts, then the 16 workout programs will keep you challenged and engaged. One of the most common reasons people stop exercising at home is because they get in to a rut, and get bored with their routines. NordicTrack lets you switch things up, so you can challenge yourself as often as you want.

If you live in a small space, the NordicTrack E5vi is a great choice. It folds up, saving you 3' of space, and when it is folded up it is very easy to move around. However, it is not the most stable or smooth machine in NordicTrack's line-up.

Value for Money

This is NordicTrack's budget elliptical, usually going for around $600-$700. While it performs well, it is very lightweight and stability can be a problem for people who are taller or weigh upwards of 200 lbs. The warranty for this machine is one year for parts and labor, but you can purchase an extended warranty for a reasonable price.

Bottom Line

As far as budget machines go, the NordicTrack E5vi elliptical trainer Standard and Plus models are decent but you can get better. The light weight of the machine translates into less stability, and an elliptical motion that is somewhat choppy in comparison to other models. If you are a small person who wants to work out a few times a week, then this machine will suit you. If you want to do more intense workouts, or are taller or heavier, then this elliptical is probably not the best choice for you.
