Proform 1050E Elliptical Trainer
A recent addition to the company's range, the Proform 1050E elliptical trainer is one of their best (if not the best) elliptical machines they offer. Still considered an entry-level elliptical, it performs well and is more stable than many of their other models to date. If you've got multiple users in the house, or just want something with more features and performance capability than your usual budget model, the 1050E is well worth looking at.
Proform 1050E Features
A stand-out feature on the 1050E is the 40-degree Power Intensity Ramp. This is a big ramp up, similar to what you get on the elliptical at your gym. You can hone in on various muscle groups in your legs depending on the intensity you choose, so you get a much more targeted and complete workout than you do with Proform's other models. The ramp also makes it much easier to reach your target heart rate zone, for ultimate fat burning or cardiovascular conditioning.
Another great feature is the adjustable stride length. Proform has generally stuck with an 18" stride, which is often not very comfortable for people over 6 feet tall. The 1050E boasts a stride length between 19" and 24", so it not only accommodates taller people but allows you to fully extend and stretch if you want to.
You also get a whopping 24 workouts, in addition to any you use with your iFit (the 1050E is compatible). Plus, this model is a rear-drive... something that is always a nice feature. Rear-drive ellipticals are usually much more comfortable, since the flywheel is at the rear and you don't have to lean forward like you often do with front-drive ellipticals. You stay perfectly upright and aligned, which is better for your hips, ankles, knees and back.
The weight rating is 325 lbs, and in this case it seems to hold true. The build is sturdy, with no wobbling. Still, if you are over 250 lbs you may want to test it out before you buy just to be sure.
Proform 1050E Value
At $1,000, this qualifies as entry-level, and you get a very good machine for this price. However, as the warranty is still only one year for parts and labor, there is the concern that things will start to wear down after that year has passed. It's too early to tell if this is something to worry about.
Proform 1050E Bottom Line
Overall, the Proform 1050E elliptical trainer is a great machine for home users. While it's not the best available in this price range, the generous stride length and Intensity Ramp make it a very solid choice.
