Proform 890E Elliptical Trainer
The Proform 890E elliptical trainer is not one of Proform's best machines. Though it sounds good on paper, actual reviews have not been overwhelmingly positive, mainly because of reports of breakdowns. Still, have a look at the features and see what you think.
Proform 890E Features
The 890E features a 10-30 degree Power Ramp, which is terrific for isolating and targeting specific muscle groups. You get a more intense workout, and reach your target cardio and fat burning zones quickly and more efficiently. When you engage the ramp, you also increase or decrease your incline and your stride length, so you can hit your calves, abs, glutes, quads and lower back as you see fit.
You can quickly adjust your resistance level during your workout with the push of a button, and the 20 resistance levels offer a lot of variety. 20 different workout programs let you shake things up as well, and choose from performance enhancing or weight loss workouts depending on your goals.
The stride length is a comfortable 18"-20", which will suit the vast majority of users, and you can adjust and reposition your stride for a more natural fit to your body type.
The maximum weight is listed at 325 lbs. This is where things start to get messy. This rating is too high, based on most reports. Even though this machine is fairly stable, especially since it is rear-drive, a more realistic maximum weight would be around 250 lbs or so. And even then, it would be wise to test the trainer out before buying to make sure there is no wobble.
Value for Money
Here's where the 890E really breaks down... literally. While you can find it for under $500 at many online retailers, you aren't getting good value for your money overall. The vast majority of user reviews state that their elliptical broke several times, even during the first year when it was covered by warranty.
Bottom Line
Overall, the Proform 890E elliptical trainer looks great on paper, but falls flat in real-life. There's not much point in buying an elliptical with such a reputation for break-down, no matter how low the cost. In fact, it has become very difficult to even find this elliptical for sale online anywhere. If you want a Proform, their other models are much better, especially their later models such as the 1050E and the 10.0 ZE. Save your money on this one.
