Proform Elliptical Trainers
Proform elliptical trainers come in the $600-1500 price bracket. They generally have a very good reputation in the industry.
Epic 1200 - This is a professional model for the serious home fitness enthusiast. It has a number of features that make it an excellent addition to your home gym.
Heart rate monitor - This is built into the handgrip so it is very easy to use
Weight capacity - This machine can take up to 350lb. Many machines will only take up to 250lb so this creates a wider potential market. Larger people do cause more wear and tear on budget machines so you can be assured that this is a rugged elliptical that is built to last.
Oversized gel pedals - Allows you to adjust your foot positions to ensure a comfortable workout position
18 programs - Allows greater flexibility so you won't get fed up with your work out.
Coolaire fan - allows you to work out more comfortably and for longer.
There are also some space saver ellipticals in the Proform range. An example is the Proform 650 Spacesaver. This machine is a quality construction but can be folded up after use so that it can more easily be put in a cupboard or closet. This may be useful if you are really strapped for space, but I suspect that many users will just leave the machine out after a time. The equipment has adjustable stride length from 13-18 inches, which makes it useful for all the family to use. Another nice feature is that it is iPod/MP3 compatible, so you can listen to your favorite tunes as you exercise.
Even though it's at the cheaper end of the range, the Proform 450 still has some great features. These include Coolaire technology, a heart rate monitor, and adjustable stride length (between 12 and 16 inches). It's worth considering if you are on a budget, but still want the best features.
